About this font
Loosely inspired by the engineered geometry of DIN 1451, this family balances a strict structure with subtle humanistic traits like the diagonal terminals and a bit of contrast.
Dorival UI has “Multiplexed Spacing”, which guarantees that blocks of text occupy the exact same space in the layout when composed with any of the weights. This is done by establishing the same width and kerning for the glyphs in every weight of the font. This kind of typeface is a great deal for composing texts on digital environments and interfaces, because they avoid text reflow and repositioning – think of UI design, for example.
Although it was designed with interfaces in mind, the fact that Dorival UI is equipped with three different widths and their respective italics, makes it a versatile type family. Also, the multiplexed feature does not compromise the letter shapes or indicates design solutions, like monospaced fonts often do. This way, Dorival UI is totally capable of being used in a wide range of situations, including printed material.
The name of the font is an homage to the great brazilian musician Dorival Caymmi.
